Blind Cat Café
Adoption Center and Cat Sanctuary
Client: ART 215 • Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign
Initially, this was a typography project where I was tasked to design bus advertisements for either a fictional business or an existing one that was rebranding. This project was also an exercise in using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator, as well as creating works partially in Illustrator and partially in Indesign. The hypothetical company that I ended up creating ads for is very loosely based off a real sanctuary (not a cat café), visually however, it ended up being inspired more by things like Dick Bruna’s Miffy and the Tama themed decor at Kishi Station.

My teacher really liked the mascots I came up with, said they’d make great enamel pins. I felt the same, their designs lend themselves well to merchandise. This project is definitely one I want to expand upon in my spare time. I’m a lot more experienced in working in Adobe, and I also think there’s a lot of potential fun to be had trying to rending them in 3D or animating them in Figma or Photoshop.

I’d love to redesign the advertisements themselves as well. I think they’re alright as they are now (if not a bit same-y), but they were made at a time where I didn’t have a lot of experience with Illustrator and Indesign and definitely could be better. The foundation is there; I like the mascots themselves, the color palette and the fonts. However, with all that I’ve learned, I feel like I can have a lot of fun expanding far beyond what I currently have.
Rotation modeling the mascots’ proportions, helps me stay on model when illustrating the characters.
